New Year Resolutions

How are your New Year resolutions going?

At the Up2Scrap office we have made a variety of resolutions, from "Cooking a new dish every week", and "Regular exercise" to my personal goal, "To do something creative every week". So far I am really enjoying it and thought I would share one of my first projects for the year with you. It is a desk calendar created for my Dad's upcoming birthday (I'm pretty sure he doesn't read our blog...?!). I used an Art Blanche calendar kit - it's originally designed to be hung, with holes in both ends of the cards but I simply covered these over and it stands nicely.

Yes, that is me with the bowl cut fringe ;) I used a selection of Basic Grey papers, predominately the 'Recess' range. As an extreme perfectionist I ventured out of my comfort zone and got into some edge sanding  with an emery board... I'm converted! Love the freedom!

I used a set of Art Blanche calendar stickers and as they are transparent, layered them over my patterned papers attached to some Gin-X coasters I had lurking on my desk... Each calendar 'page' is set up for two months, with lots of room for journalling on fold-out sections.

Cardstock: Black Bazzill
Paper:Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Red Line’ Mini paper collection, Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Red Floral’, Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Black/Cream Line’ Journalling cards
Other: Black/Cream ribbon, Black photo corners, Black brads, Hambly Screen Prints: Hand Silk-Screened Rub-Ons (Vintage)

1. Cut a piece of black Bazzill 10 x 10cm, and a piece of Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Red Floral’ 9.5 x 9.5cm and adhere as shown. Cut a piece of Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Red Line’ Mini paper and adhere to the other side as shown.Cut ribbon and secure around RSVP

Back of RSVP (Left)

1. Rub-on RSVP
2. Cut a Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Black/Cream Line’ Journalling card at approx 5.5cm and attach a black photo corner and brads as shown. Glue to back of card.

Front of RSVP (Right)

1. Cut a Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Black/Cream Line’ Journalling card at approx 4cm and attach a black photo corner. I included a 1.5cm strip of Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Red Line’ Mini paper to add interest. Adhere as shown.
2. Write your address details, I also included a stamp ☺

Placecard and Box



For the placecard I cut around the border of a Jenni Bowlin ‘Vintage Black/Cream Line’ Journalling card, added some mini papers for a splash of colour and then rub-ons, etc.

The gift box also doubles as a menu holder, I’ve got a super yummy 3 course meal planned! You could fill it with treats for your guests, after-dinner mints, etc. The template of the box is nice and easy, I punched holes in the top corners so ribbon can be threaded through to secure. The lid is the finishing touch (notice I cut one of the corners on a diagonal so the bow can peek out – also practically it means the box will close better!)

Invitation

Materials List

Cardstock: Black Bazzill, cream cardstock
Paper: Jenni Bowlin Studio 'Vintage Red Line' Mini paper collection, Jenni Bowlin Studio 'Vintage Red Floral', plain vellum
Other: Black brads, black calligraphy/felt-tip pen, Hambly Screen Prints: Rub-Ons (Vintage)

Front of invitation

1. Cut black Bazzill to 24 x 10cm and score at 2 and 14cm.
2. Trim Jenni Bowlin mini-paper to exactly 10cm x 10cm, and adhere to front of card, flush with the folded edge (there will be a small gap on the left side of the card, which will be used later to secure the card).
3. Cut a 6cm x 6cm hole in the centre of the card.
4. Cut a 7cm x 7cm frame (0.5cm wide) from black Bazzill. Cut a piece of vellum 7cm x 7cm and adhere to back of frame.
5. Using Jenni Bowlin mini-paper, trace flower design into vellum with pencil. You will need to make 'bridges' (as shown) to retain the centre of the flower. If you haven't already change the blade on your cutting knife, sharp is always easier and produces better results! Cut out traced flower.
6. Cut centre of flower from the Jenni Bowlin mini-paper and adhere to vellum. Using a black pen carefully ink the inner edges of the flower die-cut. This will help to add definition to your flower.
7. Adhere finished flower to front of invitation, positioning over the hole you cut in step 3.

Inner Card

1. Cut cream cardstock to 21.5cm x 9.5cm and score a line at 11.5cm.
2. Adhere inner card to black Bazzill on the left side, ensuring the fold lines are aligned (so your card will close successfully).
3. Cut a piece of Jenni Bowlin 'Vintage Red Floral' 6.5cm x 6.5cm and adhere to front of inner card so that it is positioned with the die-cut (see photo above for reference).
4. Rub-on lettering 'Celebrate'

Finishing Touches

1. Cut two strips of Jenni Bowlin 'Vintage Red Floral' approx 4cm x 1cm and adhere to side of card in line with the frame on the front of the invitation.
2. Measure and attach brads in centre of strips. They need to go through all layers of the invitation to secure.
