Latest news from “Secret Squirrel”

Our March Pizza Crop was lots of fun and the gourmet pizza truly delicious, so we plan to hold another on Friday, April 24th. Contact amy@fusiongroup.co.nz for more details and menu!
We are taking expressions of interest for running a series of beginner scrapbooking classes.  Let us know if you are interested or have friends that could do with learning more about the hobby ‘from the ground up’.  We hope to run a class soon if we can find a time (day or evening) that suits.  Tutor Steph Milne, will teach you about all the basic tools and techniques, plus help you create a single page layout. Classes will be $30pp, 1.5 hours in length and space will be limited to 6 people at a time.

“Secret Squirrel’s” first Friday night pizza crop is all go for Friday, March 13th!  Bring your UFOs and any other projects and products you would like to discuss (or learn more about) with tutor and hostess, Steph Milne!

• Crop cost $10pp (includes quick make and take item)

• Half pizza from Il Capo (medium size, four yummy pieces per person) plus drinks (juice, lemonade, coke, tea, coffee etc.) $6.50 each.  Please pre order with Amy who will be happy to email you the menu!

New monthly feature - Trend Watch!

On the first Monday of each month we'll be bringing you a new blog feature from one of our Elite Team - this week is from me, Louise! We'll be bringing you some of the latest trends popping up around the industry along with an inspiring layout to get you itching to try it! We're also starting a great monthly sketch challenge based on the Monthly Trend!! So let's get going...

Embossing is one of those techniques that most of us tried when we first started scrapbooking, and then relegated the tools to the bottom of our supply drawers. It’s had a bad rap over the years – being considered old-fashioned, but with the advent of some of the embossing diecutting machines and punches available on the market today, we’re seeing a resurgence of popularity as more and more people add some detailed texture and dimension to their pages using this easy technique.

There are two kinds of embossing – dry embossing, where you use a stylus and usually a template to score a design from the back to give a raised impression on the front; and heat embossing – using stamps, embossing powder and a heat gun.

The layout below incorporates embossing by using an ordinary stencil and an embossing stylus with some of the fabulous Core-dinations cardstock. When you're done embossing your image on this card, you can sand over the raised edges lightly to make the design still subtle, but a little more prominent. I've also used some of the pre-embossed patterned Bazzill - the black card is Swiss Dot so all the embossing has been done for you!

I really like how it adds dimension and texture without the bulk!
